Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Bipin Puri is a legendary pediatric surgeon and administrator who has reached the pinnacle
of both military and civil medical leadership. Currently serving as the Director of Medical Services at
Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, he is responsible for driving medical excellence and innovation across
one of India’s leading healthcare providers.
Prior to his transition to the private sector, he served a landmark tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of King
George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow (2020–2023). In his military career, he held the apex
appointment of Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS).
Clinical precisions and academic contributions:
• Surgical Pioneer: He pioneered the NUSS Procedure for Pectus Excavatum (chest wall deformity) in
India and has conducted nationwide workshops to train the next generation of surgeons.
• Specialized Expertise: A renowned expert in pediatric urology, he has published over 50 research
papers focusing on Deflux gel for vesicoureteric reflux and the management of anterior abdominal wall
defects in neonates.
• Pedagogical Leadership: An alumnus and former Associate Professor at AFMC Pune, he continues to
serve as an Emeritus Professor at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

For his exemplary and meritorious service to the nation, Dr. Puri has been decorated with India’s highest
military honors and professional awards:
❖ Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM): Awarded by the President of India for his exceptional
and distinguished service of the most exceptional order.
❖ Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM - 2017): Recognized for his meritorious service to the Armed
Forces.
❖ President’s Honorary Surgeon (PHS): Appointed as the Honorary Surgeon to the President of
India in June 2016.
❖ Double Helical National Health Award (2017): Conferred by the Indian Medical Association
for excellence in the medical profession.
