Building pathways to new avenues
Besides offering the traditionally-practised specialties, the National Board of Examinations in
Medical Sciences has been a staunch protagonist of opening doors to new avenues. It is currently
running postgraduate and postdoctoral programmes in 111 disciplines, and of the many avant-garde
steps taken by it, the
proactive measure to initiate
six-year combined
postgraduate programmes
in sub-specialities is
extremely beneficial for the
candidates who wish to
pursue a specific area in medical science. Much at the same time, it has exhibited its mind’s eye in
bringing such new domains as medical genetics, sports medicine, paediatric sub-specialties, geriatric
medicine, cardiac electrophysiology, neurovascular intervention, fetal radiology, family medicine,
and emergency medicine into its fold.
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences
is ushering in a transformative era through its landmark
program on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare. This
initiative focuses on integrating digital competencies into
clinical practice, providing a foundational understanding of
AI's practical applications in Healthcare. To ensure
widespread impact, the program has been made available
free of cost to healthcare professionals across the country.
It has achieved unprecedented engagement, with more than
68 thousand professionals registered and 15 comprehensive
modules already completed. This monumental scale earned
the initiative a Guinness World Record, underscoring its
significance as a global leader in medical education.
Guided by the principles of ethical use of AI and
accountability, this visionary step advances the nation's
digital health landscape and modernizes medical education for the future. The programme was
formally inaugurated on 21st Janurary 2026 by Smt. Anupriya Patel, Hon’ble Minister of State for
Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
