Prof. (Dr.) Shiva Kant Misra is a distinguished Minimal Access, General, and Metabolic surgeon whose
career seamlessly blends clinical excellence with a profound sense of social duty. Currently serving his
third consecutive term as Vice President of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences
(NBEMS), he is one of the key architects of medical standards and examinations in India.

As the Chief Surgeon and CEO of Shivani Hospital and IVF Centre, Kanpur, Dr. Misra has pioneered
affordable healthcare, specifically targeting the lower socioeconomic strata. His "surgical activism" is best
seen in his leadership of numerous rural surgical camps across Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh,
and Karnataka.

National & International Leadership

• Apex Governance: He is a current Institute Body Member of AIIMS Deoghar and a former member of
the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (2019-21).

• Surgical Statesmanship: He served as the President of the Association of Surgeons of India (2017) and
the President of the SAARC Surgical Care Society (2018-2020), where he was instrumental in fostering
international surgical training and collaboration.

• Academic Honors: A Fellow ad eundem of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the American
College of Surgeons, he was also conferred the Honorary Professorship of the Indian Medical
Association (2017).
