To enter into these diploma programmes the candidates shall have to qualify and compete
through the NEET-PG examination in accordance with the existing post graduate medical education
regulations. Keeping in consideration the requirement of the states, 50 per cent of NBEMS diploma
seats in the district hospitals shall be reserved for the in-service candidates of the state.
The objective of setting up these diploma programmes is manifold. It will provide much
required trained manpower to the district hospitals and sub-district hospitals and make them better
hubs of healthcare. While the diploma programmes in anaesthesiology, family medicine, and
tuberculosis and chest disease will provide human resource to handle common infections, lifestyle
diseases, critical emergencies and smaller surgeries, the diploma programmes in paediatrics and
obstetrics and gynaecology will expand the child healthcare delivery system, reproductive care and
maternal health. Opening up of these new augmented facilities will reduce the dependency of the
small town folks on tier-one cities for finding health care facilities.
At the same time, these diploma programmes by enhancing the postgraduate seats in the
country will facilitate greater opportunity for the medical graduates. It will make a big difference in
fulfilling their career objectives and will help them obtain training in a specialty of their choice. For
those keen on following it up with a degree programme, options will be open to go for a 2-year post
diploma degree programme.
Fellowship Programmes for International Students
With the base theme of enhancing the footprints of the National Board on the global academic map,
the board has commenced a number of postdoctoral fellowship programmes for the international
community of students. These programmes are run in state-of-the-art accredited hospitals and offer a
great experience for them Launched on July 1, 2020, these fellowship programmes offer learning and
skill training in multiple disciplines (Table 5).
To qualify to sit for the competitive entrance test, each candidate must fulfil certain criteria. They
must possess the post-graduate medical qualification which makes them eligible to pursue the
fellowship, this qualification must be registered in their country, the candidates must be registered to
practice in their country, and the candidates must possess a ‘no objection certificate’ from the Medical
Council or government of their country to appear for the Fellowship Entrance Test and permission to
work in India for the entire period of fellowship. The candidates must carry a valid passport and visa.
Candidates who qualify the entrance examination shall be required to obtain clearance from Ministry
of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and local police and must
