Subject: Media Release: NBE Awards for excellence in medical education

 

National Board of Examinations is an autonomous organization in the field of Post Graduate medical education and assessment. Established in 1982, the National Board of Examinations has a distinguished track record of serving the country with the capacity building and excellence in the field of Post Graduate Medical Education and Examinations.  NBE conducts examinations in 65 disciplines of modern medicine, 5 streams of entrance examinations & the screening test for Indian Nationals with Foreign Medical Qualification. 

 

At this convocation 6,492 medical specialist doctors shall be conferred the prestigious DNB/FNB qualifications.  NBE Awards for Excellence in Medical Education and Gold Medals to meritorious candidates shall also be presented at this ceremony.

 

National Board of Examinations had instituted NBE Awards for excellence in medical education.  The awards are given in the following five categories:

 

  1. Excellence in teaching for DNB Programme - NBE accredited hospital – This award is given to NBE accredited hospitals that have a long standing and successful contribution in teaching and administering DNB programmes.

 

  1. Eminent NBE Alumnus Teacher Award – This award is given to distinguished faculty members with position of leadership in a medical institute who are possessing MNAMS/DNB qualifications, preferably those who are having DNB as their primary qualification.

 

  1. Emeritus Teacher Award – This award is given to honoring legends who have made tremendous contribution in the field of medical education and their work had vast impact on the education of medical graduates.

 

  1. Distinguished DNB Teacher(s) of Excellence Awards – This award is given to distinguished faculty members who have proven credentials as a teacher/examiner in his/her specialty and/or has provided valuable contribution to DNB programme over the years.

 

The awards for current year have been announced and shall be awarded at a ceremony on 12th May, 2014 along with the 18th Convocation of NBE.  The list of awardees under various categories for NBE Awards is as follows:

 

  1. Excellence in teaching for DNB Programme-NBE accredited hospital

 

    1. St. Stephen’s Hospital, New Delhi: Hospital is providing health services since 128 years and associated with DNB programmes for almost two decades and giving excellent pass percentage of DNB trainees that reflects commitment to high quality medical education being imparted to the trainees.

 

    1. Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi: Hospital is successfully running DNB programmes in various specialties for almost three decades with more than 80% passing rate of DNB trainees.

 

  1. Eminent National Board of Examinations Alumni Teacher Award
    1. Dr. Prem Prakash Verma: Qualified DNB (Medicine) in 1987; Dr. Prem Prakash Verma is presently working with MG (Medical) North Command as Maj. Gen. (Medical).

 

    1. Dr. O.P. Yadava: Qualified DNB (CTVS), presently working as CEO & Chief Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at National Heart Institute, New Delhi.

 

  1. Emeritus Teacher Award
    1. Dr. D.K. Taneja: Having 48 years of medical professional experience, Dr. Taneja is Professor & HOD, Dept. of Orthopedics at Arihant Hospital & Research Centre, Indore.

 

    1. Dr. Inderbir Singh: (Posthumous): Has made invaluable contribution for teaching of Anatomy.  His text book of Human Anatomy, Embryology & Histology has been used by generation of medical students.

 

    1. Dr. I.K. Dhawan: Working as Medical Director, Batra Hospital & Research Centre, New Delhi.  Dr. Dhawan is also President, Association of Plastic Surgeons of India & Indian Society of Oncology.

 

  1. Distinguished DNB Teacher(s) of Excellence Awards
    1. Dr. Swarna Rekha: Presently working with Narayana Hrudayalya, Bangalore, Dr. Swarna Rekha is having 27 years of medical professional experience.  She was HOD, Pediatrics & Neonatology.

 

    1. Dr. H. Sudarshan Ballal: Dr. Ballal is Chairman, Medical Advisory Board & Medical Director at Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. & Head of Nephrology.

 

    1. Dr. Anupam Sachdeva: Dr. Sachdeva, Chairman, Academics, Co-Chairman, Dept. of Pediatrics, Director, Pediatric Hemato-Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplantation.

 

    1. Maj. Gen. M.D. Venkatesh: Dr. Venkatesh is currently Additional DGAFMS (Research & Education).  He is an ENT specialist and made valuable contribution in teaching and assessment.

 

    1. Dr. Mani Mala Rao: Having 40 years of medical professional service, currently working as HOD, Dept. of Anesthesia & Critical Care at Yashoda Super Specialty Hospital, Hyderabad and has made valuable contribution in the field of teaching.
