DNB – EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Subject: Applications for Accreditation – Diplomate NB – Emergency medicine

 

The National Board of Examinations has approved DNB – Emergency Medicine as a 3 years’ post graduate programme and invites applications from hospitals/ medical institutions fulfilling the minimum criteria as indicated below.

A copy of the course curriculum and log book etc. shall be available at the NBE website www.natboard.edu.in shortly; the existing form for accreditation as available at the NBE website may kindly be used for submitting the application with fees as prescribed.

MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR ACCREDITION

Level of Course

Post Graduate (MBBS)  course

Duration of Course

Three – years course

Nature of Programme

3 years residency based programme

Admission Criteria for Candidates

(i)    A candidate should possess MBBS degree for Primary seat. Secondary Candidates to be permitted with DA/DCH/DGO/ DOrth/ Diploma in Emergency Medicine/ MCEM qualifications.

 

 

 

(ii)   Admissions shall be undertaken, as per the scheme so prescribed by the National Board of Examinations.  Admission to all DNB courses is undertaken on the basis of merit obtained in the entrance examination conducted by NBE followed by Centralized Counseling.

 

4.

Thesis /Dissertation

Essential towards fulfillment of criterion for appearing in Final Examination. 

5.

Formative Assessment

At least three formative assessment sessions during the duration of the course.

6.

Final Examination

Conducted by NBE as per scheme prescribed.

7.

Accreditation Criteria for Hospitals

·         A 200 bedded hospital with well structured Emergency Medicine department

 

·         Strong Commitment of the hospital to adapt to uniform standards and protocol of training across the country.

 

·         Minimum 10 beds in Emergency Department or 6000 ER visits per year

 

·         An ICU of at least 30 beds.

 

·         Hospital should be equipped for handling mass casualty and disaster management.

 

·         One Consultant possessing MD (or equivalent qualification) in Emergency Medicine or MD/DNB (or equivalent qualification) in Internal Medicine with specialized training /certification from any reputed Institute /University within the country /abroad and 8 years of standing (out of which 5 years standing in the specialty of Emergency Medicine)

 

·         One Consultant possessing formal qualification i.e. Fellowship /Certificate /Degree level programme in Intensive Care from any reputed Institute /University within the country /abroad. 

·          One Consultant possessing MD/DNB (or equivalent qualification) in Internal medicine with specialized training /certification from any reputed Institute /University within the country /abroad and 5 years of experience.  

 

Or

 

One Consultants possessing MD in emergency medicine or equivalent qualification with specialized training /certification from any reputed Institute /University within the country /abroad and  years of experience.

 

At least one of the consultants as above should have been a recognized PG teacher and possessing teaching experience as indicated in the application form.

 

·         A dedicated 24 hrs. Emergency Medicine /Emergency Medical Services backup of all the Super specialties.

 

·         Trained paramedics support – ACLS + ATLS with at least one A.C. ambulance.

 

·         24 hrs. Blood bank.

 

·         24 hrs. Emergency OT.

 

·         24 hrs. Radiology department with Ultrasound, CT, MRI facility.

 

·         The faculty as indicated above should be dedicated to emergency department only.  (They should not be s****ing experience as indicated in the application form.recgnised PG teacher and posessing al institutions fulfilling the on strength of any other department of the hospital.)

 

8.

Adjunct Faculty /Tutors

Consultants possessing MD/MS/DNB (or equivalent qualification) – Internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, anesthesiology, pediatrics qualifications with specialized training and certification from any university within country or abroad.

 

Existing Physicians working in India with various qualifications such as MEM/FAEM/DAEM etc.
