NOTICE

INTRODUCTION OF DNB THORACIC SURGERY PROGRAMME - REGARDING

Attention: All NBE Accredited Hospitals/Institutes/Medical Colleges

 

NBE conducts examination in 65 specialties and has accredited 485 institutions/hospitals in public and private sector all over the country for the purpose of training of candidates in various specialties and disciplines of modern medicine.

 

Considering the emerging need to increase the pool of competent and skilled specialists and sub specialists so as to cater to the healthcare needs of the society and community at large, National Board of Examinations has decided to introduce the following DNB programme:

 

DNB Thoracic Surgery

 

Interested institutions/hospitals/medical colleges which fulfill the criteria as laid down for these programmes by NBE can apply for fresh accreditation.  Details of the minimum accreditation criteria and application forms are already available on NBE website www.natboard.edu.in

 

Outline and requirements specific to aforesaid programmes are as under:

Super Specialty Post MS/DNB – General Surgery

2.

Duration of Course

Three – years course

 

3.

Nature of Programme

3 years residency based programme

4.

Admission Criteria for Candidates

A candidate should possess MS/DNB in General Surgery.

Admission is as per the scheme so prescribed by the National Board of Examinations.  As on date the admission to all courses is undertaken on the basis of merit obtained in the entrance examination conducted by NBE followed by Centralized Counseling.

Accreditation Criteria for Hospitals

  • A 300 bedded hospital.
  • Surgical case load of 250 beds per annum.
  • An ICU of at least 30 beds.
  • At least one Consultant possessing more than 10 years of standing in Thoracic Surgery. 
  • At least two Consultants possessing MCH /DNB in CTVS with at least three years of experience in Chest surgery. 
  • Hospital should preferably have in-house Pulmonary Medicine set up or tie up with a Pulmonary Medicine set up, the hospital offering such tie up should be accredited with NBE and terms of tie up should be clearly specified covering the academic support, joint training programme, and joint case discussions. 
  • Hospital should have complete endoscopic procedures, all chest surgery equipments and complete Thoracic set up, at least two OTs with emergency support. 
  • A candidate should get exposure to all kinds of Thoracic Surgery involving all organs of chest.  Rotational postings of three months in Pulmonary medicine and Critical Care Medicine of the candidate should be undertaken. 
  • 24 hrs. Blood bank.
  • 24 hrs. Emergency OT.
  • 24 hrs. Radiology department with Ultrasound, CT, MRI facility.
  • IPD strength at least 1000
